Microwave equipment market dips 2 percent in Q3 2014

The microwave equipment market dipped 2 percent in Q3 2014 from a year ago and increased 4 percent sequentially to $1.1 billion, said Infonetics Research.

Leading network vendors in the microwave equipment market are Alcatel-Lucent, Ceragon, Ericsson, Huawei and NEC.

Backhaul continues to dominate the microwave market, while access and transport remain stable niche segments

The EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) leads the world in microwave equipment revenue, followed by Asia Pacific.

ARPU for Ethernet-only units, which account for an increasing proportion of shipments, will decline to around half its 2013 value by 2018, Infonetics said.

The microwave equipment market will grow in 2015.

Pricing pressures and inter-technology competition with wireline backhaul alternatives are impacting the growth of microwave equipment market.

“The combination of LTE-A upgrades and modest growth in small cell deployments will bes giving the market a small injection of energy,” said Richard Webb, directing analyst for mobile backhaul and small cells at Infonetics Research.
