The latest performance report from TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) indicates that Bharti Airtel continues to lead the Indian rural wireless market in 2017.
Vodafone India is the telecom service provider with the highest proportion of rural telephone subscribers with 54.01 percent, followed by Idea Cellular with 53.97 percent to their total telephone subscribers.
The rural wireless subscribers increased from 498.28 million in September 2017 to 499 million in December 2017. Urban wireless subscribers declined from 684.77 million to 668.44 million during the quarter.
Quarterly growth rates of rural and urban wireless subscriptions are 0.14 percent and -2.38 percent respectively in December 2017.
The share of rural wireless subscription increased from 42.12 percent to 42.74 percent in total wireless subscription in the fourth quarter.
India has Internet subscriber base of 132.03 million in rural locations in 2017.
Total Internet subscribers per 100 population is 34.42. Urban Internet subscribers per 100 population is 76.76. Rural Internet subscribers per 100 population 14.89.
