India telecom gross revenue dips 8% in Q4 2017: TRAI

TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) said Indian telecom operators reported gross revenue (GR) Rs 61,089 crore, registering 7.95 percent drop quarter on quarter and 8.18 percent dip year on year, in the fourth quarter of 2017.

Bharti Airtel reported average gross of revenue of Rs 7825.36 crore (–11.54%). Bharti Airtel enhanced its wireless subscriber base to 285.95 million in December 2017 from 285.53 in the previous quarter and 269.68 in December quarter of 2016.

Vodafone India posted average gross revenue of Rs 5656.48 crore (–10.28%). Vodafone India has increased its wireless subscriber base to 212.73 million in December 2017 from 207.63 million in September 2017 as compared with 204.82 million in December 2016, said TRAI.

Idea Cellular clocked Rs 4746.13 crore (–10.58%) average gross revenue. Idea Cellular has also increased its wireless subscriber base to 196.5 million in December 2017 from 190.16 million in September 2017 and 190.52 million in December 2016.

BSNL registered average gross revenue of Rs 1800.28 crore (–25.97%). BSNL’s mobile subscriber increased to 120.35 million from 118.61 million in Q3 2017 and 110.53 million in Q4 2016.

Tata Teleservices posted average gross revenue of Rs 1202.79 crore (–27.78%).

Aircel registered average gross revenue of Rs 1011.65 crore  (–21.31%). Aircel has lost its mobile user base to 85 million from 88.82 million in the previous quarter and 90.88 million in December 2016.

Reliance Communications posted average gross revenue of Rs 371.21 crore (–55.16%).

Telenor clocked average gross revenue of Rs 355.07 crore (–33.78%).

MTNL registered average gross revenue of Rs 556.87 crore (+38.20%).

MTS Sistema Shyam posted average gross revenue of Rs 23.03 crore (–71.58%).

Quadrant’s average gross revenue was Rs 11.86 (+157.08%) fuelled by spectrum sale.

Reliance Jio registered average gross revenue of Rs 5407.19 crore (+26.53%). Reliance Jio has a 4G subscriber based 160.09 million as compared with 138.62 million in September 2017 and 72.16 million in December 2016.

Reliance Jio, Qudrant and MTNL posted impressive growth during the last quarter of 2017.
