Qualcomm buys Palm, IPAQ and Bitfone patent from HP

Wireless chip vendor Qualcomm has acquired a patent portfolio — Palm, IPAQ and Bitfone patent –from enterprise IT solutions provider HP.

These patents include fundamental mobile operating system techniques.

The company did not disclose the financial details.

The portfolio comprises approximately 1,400 granted patents and pending patent applications from the U.S. and approximately 1,000 granted patents and pending patent applications from other countries.

The acquisition further enhances the strength and diversity of Qualcomm’s mobile patent portfolio and will enable the company to offer more value to current and future licensees.

According to data from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and IFI Claims patent service, Qualcomm received 2103 patents last year.
