Outer Reach Broadband and BerryComm select Nokia for fiber network

Nokia announced deals with two Internet service providers — Outer Reach Broadband and BerryComm — to deploy fiber network.

Outer Reach Broadband is making investment in a fiber network across rural Maine to offer 10 Gbps gigabit broadband services to homes and businesses. Nokia’s fiber solution is also ready for 25G, to address future needs.

Nokia will also deploy its Altiplano Access Controller, a cloud-native platform for automating broadband networks. In addition, Outer Reach Broadband will deploy Nokia’s Wi-Fi 6 beacons with integrated EasyMesh technology for home Wi-Fi coverage.

Outer Reach will use Nokia’s Corteca software, to manage and optimize Wi-Fi performance in the home. For the deployment, Nokia has partnered with VarData, a value-added reseller supporting networks for both service providers and enterprise customers.

“After careful consideration, we’ve chosen Nokia’s FTTP platform for our fiber deployments because of its proven performance, scalability, and innovative technology,” said Tom Kirby, Co-Founder and President of Outer Reach Broadband.

“Multi-gigabit fiber broadband is increasingly being used to connect everything: homes, businesses, cell sites, and smart cities, providing an opportunity for service providers to offer exceptional services and unlock new revenue streams on fiber,” said Jeff Dean, Head of Partner Program for North America at Nokia.

BerryComm

BerryComm, a fiber-optic broadband provider in Central Indiana, announced the deployment of an high-speed internet connectivity for homes and businesses.

BerryComm will deploy Nokia’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) with coherent optics and Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) technologies for ensuring superior network. This deployment allows BerryComm to maintain complete control over service quality while reducing dependence on external carriers for last-mile connectivity. This infrastructure will enable BerryComm to reach 100G and beyond.

“The deployment of Nokia’s ROADM technology marks a significant milestone in our mission to bridge the digital divide across Central Indiana,” said Cory Childs, President of BerryComm.
