Juniper Networks today announced the Virtual Converged Cable Access Platform (Virtual CCAP) that allows cable operators to nearly 10 times increase in scale and data capacity.
Recently, Juniper Networks made a strategic investment in Gainspeed to expand its offerings for the cable MSO industry.
Cable operators can also benefit from new revenue and service models by leveraging advances in modern silicon, systems packaging, cloud computing and software defined networking (SDN), said Juniper Networks.
Juniper Networks in a statement said the virtual CCAP is designed to reduce the total cost of capacity by 67 percent, as compared to existing solutions by avoiding physical cable modem termination system (CMTS) platforms.
In addition, the virtual solution enables increased automation of the overall Cable MSO network, and specifically the edge/access infrastructure, as it will allow for the seamless transition to an all IP, all-DOCSIS environment.
Cable MSOs can leverage the potential of the MX Series 3D Universal edge routing platforms, which can scale to 34Tbps at the network edge.
MSOs can tap revenue opportunities such as commercial VPNs, WiFi backhaul, small-cell backhaul, and carrier-grade MPLS services.
