India’s Telecom Sector Sees Rapid Growth in Broadband and Telephone Users in Mid-2025
As of June 2025, India has 979.71 million broadband subscribers and 1,218.36 million total telephone users. Broadband subscribers increased by 0.50 percent from May to June 2025, while total telephone users rose by 0.93 percent in the same period. Fixed wireless broadband users grew by 60.06 percent from April to May 2025. Mobile broadband users increased by 2.92 percent during the same period. The National Broadband Mission 2.0, launched in January 2025, plans to extend optical fiber connectivity to 270,000 villages by 2030 and improve average fixed broadband speeds to 100 Mbps by 2030.
Turkey’s Telecom Industry Set for Major Shift with New Operator, 5G Launch, and Advanced Tech by 2026
Turkey’s telecom sector is changing with key updates planned for 2026. Türksat will become the fourth mobile operator, joining Turkcell, Vodafone Turkey, and Türk Telekom. This move is set for early 2026, with plans to present the proposal to Parliament soon. Turkey will launch 5G services by 2026, with a national tender scheduled for August 2025. The rollout will start in populous provinces, following a phased approach. Turkcell tested satellite direct-to-device (D2D) technology, enabling mobile services like SMS, voice, and data via Low-Earth Orbit satellites. Turkcell and Ericsson are leading 6G research in Turkey, focusing on higher frequencies, increased capacity, and lower latency. Turkcell plans to invest $3 billion to gain operational rights over Turkey’s fixed broadband infrastructure after Türk Telekom’s fiber concession ends in 2026.
Morocco Awards 5G Licenses to Major Telecom Operators with $8 bn Investment Plan
Morocco’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT) granted 5G licenses to Itissalat Al-Maghrib (Maroc Telecom), Médi Telecom (Orange Morocco), and Wana Corporate (Inwi). The licenses were awarded based on investment commitments, coverage plans, and service quality. The operators pledged about 80 billion Moroccan dirhams (around $8 billion) in investments and expenses through 2035 for 5G rollout and maintenance. Licensing terms require 5G coverage to reach 45 percent of the population by the end of 2026 and 85 percent by 2030. These targets support Morocco’s digital strategy to improve connectivity and enable digital services across sectors. ANRT published the evaluation report on its website.
AT&T Launches First Third-Party AI-Driven rApp on Ericsson’s Automation Platform
AT&T deployed the first third-party rApp on Ericsson’s Intelligent Automation Platform (EIAP). The rApp was created using Aira Technologies’ Naavik AppGen and tested in a network environment similar to AT&T’s live network. The deployment used open interfaces such as O-RAN’s R1 and Data Management & Exposure (DME). Ericsson’s EIAP supports multi-vendor, multi-technology networks, allowing the rapid development and deployment of rApps. The platform includes an rApp Directory that helps users find and connect with rApp developers. This project shows how the telecom industry is using AI-driven platforms and open standards to improve network automation and management.
