The global semiconductor industry is heading toward a historic year as surging demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure, high-performance computing and advanced memory drives unprecedented growth in chip sales. The semiconductor market is now calculated to reach approximately $1.655 trillion in 2026, representing annual growth of around 108 percent.

Global semiconductor sales reached $403.3 billion during the second quarter of 2026, soaring 35.1 percent compared with the first quarter, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). The acceleration highlights the enormous computing infrastructure investments taking place as technology companies expand AI data centers and deploy increasingly powerful computing systems.
The momentum was even more pronounced in June. Worldwide semiconductor sales reached $134.5 billion in June 2026, surging 123.6 percent from June 2025 and increasing 9.7 percent from May 2026, according to figures compiled by World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS).
Semiconductor Sales Reach $702 Billion in First Half of 2026
The global semiconductor market reached $702 billion during the first half of 2026, representing an 102 percent increase year over year.
The growth reflects investment in AI infrastructure, high-performance computing and advanced memory technologies. AI servers and data centers require large volumes of processors, accelerators, memory and other semiconductor components, making the AI infrastructure buildout an increasingly important engine for global chip demand.
SIA President and CEO John Neuffer said strong semiconductor demand across the Americas, Asia Pacific and China continues to fuel global market growth while reinforcing the industry’s importance to the next generation of technology innovation and economic competitiveness.
SIA expects global chip sales to exceed $1.5 trillion during 2026, with second-quarter sales substantially outpacing the first quarter.
Memory Chip Market Surges 305 Percent
Memory emerged as the standout semiconductor product segment during the first half of 2026, recording 305 percent increase.
The exceptional performance reflects booming demand for advanced memory technologies supporting AI infrastructure and high-performance computing.
Logic semiconductor sales recorded robust growth, increasing 45 percent. Other semiconductor product categories delivered positive annual growth as well, indicating that the expansion is extending beyond AI-related memory and computing chips into a broader range of semiconductor applications.
The latest calculations indicate that Memory could grow 302 percent for the full year of 2026.
Americas Leads Global Semiconductor Growth
The semiconductor boom is also geographically broad-based, although the Americas recorded the fastest growth.
Semiconductor sales in the Americas surged 160.9 percent during June 2026. Asia Pacific/All Other followed with growth of 124.4 percent, while China semiconductor sales jumped 112.8 percent.
Europe recorded a 75.2 percent increase, while semiconductor sales in Japan grew 39 percent compared with June 2025.
Every major regional market also expanded on a month-to-month basis in June.
China led monthly growth with semiconductor sales increasing 10.4 percent from May. Asia Pacific/All Other sales advanced 9.8 percent, while the Americas increased 9.6 percent. Japan recorded growth of 8.6 percent and Europe expanded 7.7 percent.
Semiconductor Market Could Cross $2 Trillion in 2027
The expansion is expected to continue into 2027, though at a slower growth rate following the exceptional surge anticipated in 2026.
Current calculations put the global semiconductor market at approximately $2.1 trillion in 2027, representing another 29 percent annual increase.
