Qualcomm Ventures on Tuesday said it has invested in technology start-up Birds Eye Systems, which offers real-time traffic and travel information for Indian cities.
Earlier, Birds Eye secured its first round of institutional funding from Matrix Partners India.
Qualcomm Ventures does not disclose the size of its investment in Birds Eye that offers traffic and travel information through a variety of mobile and internet channels under the Traffline brand.
Traffline mobile transport application enables city navigation with real time information on traffic, routes and parking.
“By applying wireless and location technologies, Traffline provides innovative solutions to address current challenges in the transportation segment,” said Varsha Tagare, director, Qualcomm Ventures, in a statement.
By aggregating information from the police and public utilities Birds Eye has created a unique India specific data set. Through a set of mobile apps starting with – Traffline and Ridlr – commuters can also connect and share info with each other creating a large hyper local social network for the daily commute.
“Getting access to accurate and real-time traffic, travel and local information is a big problem for millions of Indian commuters in major cities. We want to address this problem using an approach tailored to Indian ethos and travel conditions,” said Briraj Vaghani and Ravi Khemani, co-founders, Birds Eye Private Systems.
