Telecom Companies Need More Spectrum for 5G and IoT

Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea say they need more spectrum to support for the roll out of 5G network and IoT services. Right now, they have 400 MHz. They say they need 2,000 MHz by 2030. Jio asked for spectrum in new bands (3.5 GHz and 6–8.4 GHz). Vodafone Idea said more talks are needed with the government. Nokia says 5G users in India will go from 270 million to 770 million by 2028. The government says there is enough spectrum and they are working on opening more bands.

BSNL Prepares for 5G

Indian telecom operator BSNL is getting ready for 5G. It has upgraded 73,000 of its 100,000 4G sites. It will use them for 5G soon. BSNL is also building 26,000 new towers in rural areas. It will offer low-cost plans with IoT and edge computing services. BSNL will launch 5G in Delhi in 2025 using Indian-made equipment.
