IDC has released the statistics on server market share for the first quarter of 2020. Dell is the top supplier in Indian server market.
The server market revenue in India fell 22.1 percent to $232.1 million in the first quarter of 2020, according to IDC.
Major contribution to the x86 server market, which accounts for 85.2 percent of the overall server market in India, comes from the professional services and telecom segments, followed by banking and manufacturing verticals.
Telecommunication vendors, nationalized banks, digital wallets companies, global high-tech semiconductor manufacturing companies, and federal government departments have bought x86 servers during Q1 2020.
India’s x86 server market revenue fell 25.3 percent to $197.9 million.
The x86 server market is expected to dip further in Q2 2020 due to Covid-19 affecting the financial and operational balance of the industries. Recovery is expected to be observed in H2 2020, owing to spend coming from federal government agencies, bank refresh, and network modernization projects from telecommunication vendors.
The non-x86 server market revenue grew 3.6 percent to $34.2 million.
IBM dominates the non-x86 server market accounting for 74.1 percent of revenue share with a revenue of $25.4 million.
Adoption of IBM’s server offerings is growing primarily across banks for their core banking and internet banking workloads. As a result, 79.4 percent of its revenue was coming from banks, followed by manufacturing.
Oracle is in second position in the non-x86 server market in India with 14.6 percent share in Q2 2020.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has a revenue share of 11.3 percent in the non-x86 server market in India.
Dell Technologies emerged as the top vendor in the India x86 server market with a revenue share of 36 percent and revenue of $71.3 million.
Key server wins for Dell Technologies came from professional services, banks, high-tech semiconductor manufacturing companies, and telecommunication vendors.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is the second largest supplier in x86 server market with a revenue share of 23.1 percent and revenue of $45.7 million.
HPE picked up large orders from telecommunication vendors, professional services vertical, manufacturing, and federal government departments.
Cisco is the third largest x86 server supplier with revenue share of 8.8 percent and a revenue of $17.4 million.
Lenovo came in fourth accounting for a revenue share of 6.3 percent and a revenue of $12.4 million in Indian x86 server market.
