Idea Cellular added 1.62 million new subscribers in June — the highest number, the Cellular Operators’ Association of India (COAI) said on Wednesday.
Idea Cellular was followed by Bharti Airtel (1.22 million), Uninor (0.42 million), Vodafone (0.39 million), Aircel (0.3 million), Videocon (0.15 million) and MTNL (0.02 million), said COAI data released here.
The GSM subscribers increased by 4.14 million in June 2015 — up 0.58 percent from May.
All India GSM cellular subscriber figures as of June 2015 were 720.38 million.
The total number of telephone connections in India crossed the 1 billion-mark in May, data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said earlier.
The total number of telecom subscription stood at 1,002.05 million at the end of May, out of which 975.78 million were wireless connections and 26.27 million were wireline.
“The number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 999.71 million at the end of April 2015 to 1,002.05 million at the end of May 2015, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.23 percent,” the TRAI statement said.
