Telus Capex for 2013 to increase to $2 billion

Canadian telecom service provider Telus on Friday said its Capex (capital spending) for 2013 will be increased to $2 billion from the earlier estimate of $1.95 billion.

In the third quarter of 2013, Telus Capex rose 17.8 percent to $555 million from $471 million.

Telus revenue during the period increased 3.6 percent to $2,874 million and net income increased 10.2 percent to $356 million.

Telus also said its annual wireless external revenue will be around $6.1 to $6.2 billion from its earliest estimate of $6.2 to $6.3 billion.

The telecom operator said the increase in Q3 revenue was due to 5 percent growth in wireless network revenue to $1.44 billion and 3 percent increase in wireline revenue.

Telus wireline revenue growth was driven by 9 percent increase in data revenue, generated by TELUS TV and high-speed Internet subscriber growth and increasing revenue per customer.

Data revenue increased 17 percent to $637 million, representing 44 percent of wireless network revenue in the quarter. Data ARPU increased 13 percent to $27.72. These increases were due to continued strong adoption and usage of smartphones and data applications as well as higher roaming volumes.

Telus wireless customer base rose 3 percent to 7.8 million, while the Telus TV subscriber base increased 22 percent to 776,000, while high-speed Internet connections are up more than 5 percent to 1.37 million.
