Iridium, Deutsche Telekom IoT and Toyota Demonstrate Satellite Voice Messaging Over NTN Direct
Iridium Communications, Deutsche Telekom IoT and Toyota have successfully demonstrated voice messaging over Iridium NTN Direct, advancing direct-to-device satellite connectivity for automotive and IoT applications. The message originated from a Toyota vehicle equipped with a Nordic Semiconductor nRF9151 development board and Deutsche Telekom IoT SIM and travelled entirely across Iridium’s LEO satellite network. Deutsche Telekom IoT and Iridium have also completed a roaming agreement extending DT IoT coverage beyond terrestrial cellular networks. Iridium NTN Direct is designed around 3GPP-standardized 5G NB-IoT, allowing compatible devices to move between terrestrial and satellite networks. The partners are targeting vehicles, logistics, emergency communications and remote IoT installations where conventional mobile coverage is unavailable.
MidWave Wireless Builds Project Fortis Across 18 US Markets
Wavsys is supporting MidWave Wireless in designing and constructing network infrastructure for Project Fortis, a resilient wireless communications platform being deployed across 18 US markets and territories. Fortis operates using MidWave’s licensed 1.4 GHz and 1.7 GHz spectrum and incorporates military-proven Mobile Ad Hoc Networking technology. Unlike conventional centralized mobile architectures, the network is designed to form and heal itself automatically and continue operating when LTE or 5G infrastructure becomes congested, degraded or unavailable. Wavsys is providing turnkey network design, site acquisition and construction services. MidWave is positioning Fortis as a complementary connectivity layer for public safety, critical infrastructure and commercial users requiring resilient voice, data and situational-awareness communications during network outages or emergencies.
High-End Router Market Jumps 25% as Cloud Provider Purchases Surge 94% Global high-end routing and aggregation equipment revenue increased 25 percent year over year in Q2 2026, according to Dell’Oro Group, driven by stronger carrier, cloud and enterprise network investment. Direct vendor sales to cloud providers surged 94 percent, reflecting hyperscaler spending on AI infrastructure, data-center interconnect and cloud access. Core-router revenue posted high-double-digit growth for a fifth consecutive quarter and reached a record level. Edge-router revenue increased 20 percent, while enterprise high-end router revenue jumped 31 percent. Communication service providers remained the largest customer segment. Cisco ranked first overall and among cloud providers, while Huawei led the CSP segment; Nokia ranked third in both. Every major geographic region recorded double-digit revenue growth.
