Telenor today published its Global Impact Report, compiled by KPMG, quantifying the company’s socioeconomic impact.

The report shows that Telenor has contributed $20.3 billion — an estimated $10.7 billion in Europe and $9.6 billion in Asia — towards economic growth (in terms of Gross Value Added) across its 13 markets in 2015.

“This report aims to contribute to a constructive dialogue on how we can continue realizing the value and the opportunity of our digital future,” said Sigve Brekke, president and CEO of Telenor Group.

Telenor generated an estimated 1.2 million direct, indirect and induced jobs. 1.1 million jobs were in Asia alone. For every 1 job that Telenor created directly, an additional 33 indirect and induced jobs were created within Telenor’s operation.

Telenor made total investment of $3.2 billion, including $3.1 billion of capital expenditure (Capex) in 2015.

Telenor made contribution of $11.7 billion comprising direct, through the supply chain and induced economic activity, and through employees.

Telenor made $8 billion of estimated net GDP contribution through greater digital access (2G and the shift to 3G and 4G) between 2014 and 2015.

11.8 million subscribers have accessed financial transactions via mobile. Users made $27.6 billion in financial transactions using Telenor’s network, including mobile and over the counter transactions via Telenor’s own financial services, such as EasyPaisa.

Telenor employed 13,000 women directly in 2015 (36 percent of Telenor’s workforce). $3.1 billion of the estimated $8 billion net GDP contribution through greater digital access between 2014 and 2015 was attributed specifically to increased digital access for female subscribers.

2.1 million employees benefitted from working for companies with high standards of labor rights and working conditions, following Telenor’s supply chain sustainability policy.
