Singtel, Airtel offer cheap call rates to Singapore Indians

Singtel and Airtel have formed partnership to offer cheaper voice call plans to customers calling to India.

Precisely the partnership enables Singtel prepaid mobile customers with smartphones to make voice calls to India via the Airtel Talk app.

Airtel Talk was previously accessible only to credit card holders.

The app can be utilized by Singtel prepaid mobile customers who purchase hi!India Plans with their prepaid credits. Airtel Talk calls are carried via normal IDD lines.

The hi!India Plans voice call rates to fixed lines and mobile phones start from S$5 for 100 minutes ($0.05/min) to S$12 for 300 minutes ($0.04/min).

All data charges are waived for customers connecting to Airtel Talk on a 3G or 4G connection, the company said.

The new package will benefit the large population of migrant workers in Singapore, many from India, said Singtel’s Consumer Singapore VP, Retail & Channel Sales, Ms Diana Chen.

Ajay Chitkara, director and CEO, Global Voice & Data Business, Bharti Airtel said, “With this partnership, we have eliminated the hassle associated with calling cards and credit card requirements for Singtel prepaid mobile customers.”
