MTN ties up with SumTotal Systems to deploy enterprise-wide Learning Management Solution

Telecom Lead Africa: Mobile service provider MTN Group
has tied up with SumTotal Systems to deploy enterprise-wide Learning Management
Solution (LMS) to replace paper-based processes.

The SumTotal Systems solution enables the African telecom
major to enable real-time measurement and tracking, and provide every MTN
employee with access to e-Learning.

MTN has mobile licences in 21 countries and internet
service provider businesses in 13 countries, spanning three continents.

For MTN, e-Learning is important as it has 24,252
employees who communicate in five official languages and represent 55
nationalities.

In 2011, MTN invested R265 million on employee
development.

Part of MTN’s vision has been the deployment of their
e-Live project, aimed at providing every MTN employee with access to SumTotal’s
e-Learning environment via a fully integrated learning platform to further
embed the self-directed learning culture in MTN.

The e-Live project has contributed significantly to MTN’s
objective to be the lowest cost operator across the markets in Africa and
Middle East by reducing the Learning & Development skills spend per person.

Moreover, the project has also streamlined the way
employees request training and get activated on the system, without the need
for time consuming approvals. In the first four months of the project, 38
percent of staff accessed the SumTotal System.

With these factors in place, our staff has taken
advantage of the titles provided and we have seen a marked increase in e-learning
usage. I am pleased to say that, with SumTotal’s help, we are delivering on our
Employee Value Proposition to invest in our people by providing more
opportunities for them to learn and develop,” said said Paul Norman, MTN Group
Chief Human Resources and Corporate Affairs Officer at MTN Group.

With today’s need for immediate access to information,
companies are demanding platforms that quickly provide access to learning and
development programs to their employees. Our Cloud solution enables MTN to continue
to deliver on its corporate commitment in its Employee Value Proposition (EVP)
to -invest in Talent,” said Malcolm Tinkler, vice president, international
sales at SumTotal Systems.
