Thailand AIS — using Huawei’s RAN16 software release and a smartphone powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset — has tested the 3-Carrier High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (3C-HSDPA) and the Dual-Carrier High-Speed Uplink Packet Access (DC-HSUPA) on a commercial network in the Ari district of Bangkok.
The peak rate of the 3G network increased to 63 Mbps (Downlink) and 11Mbps (Uplink). Thailand AIS has become the first mobile operator to successfully test the world’s fastest 3G technology in Southeast Asia.
The results showed a 50 percent increase in the downlink rate when using 3C-HSDPA compared to the DC-HSDPA.
Both 3C-HSDPA and DC-HSUPA can support simultaneous transmissions on several carriers for a single user, which can greatly enhance carrier collaboration and maximize the utility of existing wireless resources.
Huawei has supported China Unicom, Turkcell, AIS and other operators in the completion of live 3C-HSDPA and DC-HSUPA trials.
