How AT&T is utilizing its Capex in select telecom markets

American wireless carrier AT&T today announced its Capex (capital spending) in Hawaii, Alaska, Iowa, Maryland, the Virginia Beach, Newport News and Norfolk areas and Washington, DC in 2012-2014.

AT&T has invested nearly $120 million in its wireless and wireline networks in Hawaii between 2012 through 2014, improving coverage, speed and performance for residents and business customers.

As part of its Project Velocity IP (VIP), an investment plan focused on network enhancement and expansion, AT&T in 2014 made 37 network upgrades in Hawaii, including three new cell sites, 23 carrier additions and capacity upgrades, and 11 network connection upgrades.

AT&T has invested nearly $200 million in its wireless network in Alaska between 2012 through 2014. AT&T in 2014 made more than 50 network upgrades in Alaska. Main network enhancements in 2014 included launching 4G LTE high-speed service in Ketchikan, North Pole and Seward; enhancing wireless capacity by 50 percent in Kodiak to improve mobile Internet data and voice connectivity and bringing high-speed internet to customers in Delta Junction.

AT&T has invested more than $150 million in its wireless and wired networks in Iowa from 2012 through 2014. AT&T in 2014 made 154 network upgrades in Iowa, including new cell sites and the addition of wireless and wired network capacity. Notable Iowa network enhancements in 2014 included the launch of AT&T’s home automation and security service, Digital Life, in Council Bluffs in May.

AT&T has invested nearly $550 million in its wireless and wired networks in Maryland between 2012 through 2014. AT&T in 2014 made 60 wireless network upgrades and built 22 new cell sites in Maryland. Notable enhancements include new cell sites in Nottingham, Timonium, Dundalk, Frederick, Lutherville and Annapolis; in addition to LTE launches in Easton, Salisbury, Hagerstown and Cambridge.

AT&T has invested nearly $90 million in its wireless and wired networks in the Virginia Beach, Newport News and Norfolk areas between 2012 through 2014. AT&T in 2014 made more than 20 wireless network upgrades in the Virginia Beach, Newport News and Norfolk areas, including an upgraded LTE cell site in Grafton, VA.

AT&T has invested more than $200 million in its wireless and wired networks in Washington, DC between 2012 through 2014. AT&T in 2014 made 29 wireless network upgrades and built 10 new cell sites in Washington, DC. Notable enhancements include upgraded cell sites in Georgetown, H Street NE, Southeast DC, Navy Memorial, NoMa, U Street and Woodley Park.

AT&T has invested more than $150 million in its wireless and wired networks in Richmond between 2012 through 2014. AT&T in 2014 made more than 50 wireless network upgrades in the Richmond area, including upgraded LTE cell sites in Richmond, Petersburg and Hanover, mobile internet expansion in Moseley and Midlothian, and a new LTE cell site in Hanover.

AT&T has invested nearly $950 million in its wireless and wired networks in Virginia between 2012 through 2014. AT&T in 2014 made 350 wireless network upgrades and built 63 new cell sites in Virginia. Notable enhancements include LTE cell site upgrades in Richmond, Arlington, Fairfax and Alexandria.
