450 MHz spectrum gains momentum

The 450 MHz Alliance that focuses on the development of 450 MHz spectrum market has conducted its annual Asia meeting in Hong Kong with more than 50 attendees from mobile operators, telecom network vendors and device makers.

The 450 MHz Alliance will work to develop the market and technology to meet the demand for wide area data and voice coverage.

“It is a clear indication that the industry is on the rise recognizing a great potential of the 450 MHz spectrum,” said Igor Virker, chairman of 450 MHz Alliance.

450 MHz spectrum

450 MHz spectrum was the first spectrum used for mobile communication worldwide starting in the early nineteen-eighties. Due to its better radio wave propagation, it provides cost effective coverage, both in terms of area and in-building penetration.

450 MHz networks are demonstrating in Scandinavia, in Russia and in some parts of Asia, Africa and Latin America.

The alliance is committed to the concept of Smarter Countries by using 450 MHz networks to provide ubiquitous coverage.

First deployments of 450MHz networks that are primarily focusing on this long-term need are under way in several European markets, focusing on critical communication services for utilities, transport, industry and public safety.
