Ericsson appoints Patrick Johansson as Head of Middle East & Africa market

Ericsson has announced the appointment of Patrick Johansson as its Head of Market Area Middle East & Africa (MMEA).

Patrick Johansson is currently Head of Business Control & Operations at Ericsson’s Business Area Cloud Software & Services. Patrick Johansson will take up his new position on August 1, 2024, and be based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In May 2024, Ericsson revealed the decision of Fadi Pharaon, who was the Head of Market Area Middle East & Africa from 2019, to leave the telecom equipment maker.

Middle East & Africa contributed 9 percent of total revenue of Ericsson in 2023. Ericsson’s sales in the Middle East & Africa region increased by 5 percent to SEK 23.7 billion in 2023, primarily driven by new 5G investments in some Middle East countries and market share gains in certain markets.

In Middle East & Africa, Ericsson has generated 12.902 billion SEK from Networks, 10.457 billion SEK from Cloud Software and Services, and 378 million SEK from Enterprises in 2023. Ericsson has 4,481 employees in the Middle East & Africa region.

Patrick Johansson’s background spans across multiple Business Areas and Market Areas having lived in Sweden, Korea, India, Austria, China and Vietnam since joining Ericsson in 1997. His previous work experience includes roles as Global Head of Sales & Commercial Management for Business Area Networks, Head of Customer Unit Korea as well as several executive Finance and Business roles.
