Alcatel-Lucent in 100G network deal with MTN Nigeria

Telecom network vendor Alcatel-Lucent will support MTN Nigeria for its 100G network.

MTN Nigeria, which covers more than 90 percent of Nigeria, will deploy a 100G network that re-uses existing 10G optical assets to preserve MTN past investments.

The 100G network gives MTN, which has more than 58 million subscribers in Nigeria, the capacity and flexibility to offer wholesale services to other service providers in the region. MTN Nigeria will also benefit from mobile broadband access to support growing demand for bandwidth hungry services such as streaming video and storage and data center connections for enterprises.

Alcatel-Lucent 1830 Photonic Service Switch for MTN Nigeria

As per the deal, Alcatel-Lucent will build a 100G DWDM/OTN network using Alcatel-Lucent’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) platform.

Lynda Saint-Nwafor, CTO of MTN Nigeria said: “MTN realized we needed to upgrade our network to meet customer expectations for ultra-broadband connectivity and high reliability within Nigeria’s very competitive marketplace.”
