Telecom Italia bags EUR 5.7 mn tender to build optical fibre network

Telecom Italia will invest EUR 1.7 million to build an optical fibre passive network infrastructure that will cost EUR 5.7 million.

The balance EUR 4 million will be through public funding from the ERDF.

The telecom investment will be part of a tender won by Telecom Italia to receive funding to set up new passive optic infrastructure that will enable next generation access networks to supply services to citizens, enterprises and government.

As per the plan, 4 new municipalities — Termoli, Isernia, Pozzilli and Venafro – will be able to access broadband connections at speeds of 30 to 100 Megabytes per second by 2015.

Telecom Italia Capex plans

Telecom Italia will adapt 8 exchange areas to allow around 31,000 households to be supplied with a 30 Megabytes per second connection, while 3,000 including 100 government offices, schools and hospitals will have the option of a 100 Megabytes per second connection.

By 2015, in addition to this project co-funded by the Molise Region, Telecom Italia plans to build a new generation infrastructure and services in Campobasso, independently and with its own investments, to serve approximately 27,000 households.

Francesco Di Perna, head of Telecom Italia Central Italy Access Operations, said: “We will build an optical fibre network in four municipalities of Molise, allowing citizens, companies and government offices to use services that will act as a driving force for the growth of the whole local economy.”
