StarHub reveals why it selected Nokia for XGS-PON deployment

StarHub has completed its nationwide XGS-PON deployment to enhance broadband capacity, support advanced applications, and improve operational efficiency.

StarHub 5G in Singapore

Nokia has supported StarHub for providing homes across Singapore with access to ultra-fast 10 Gbps internet speeds.

Lee Yeu Ching, Vice President of Fixed and Media Networks at StarHub, emphasized the company’s commitment to advancing its network to deliver an exceptional user experience and achieve greater operational efficiency.

He credited Nokia as a key partner in the seamless and rapid transition to XGS-PON, enabling a faster adoption of 10Gbps services to support Singapore’s national digital transformation agenda. He also highlighted that this milestone represents a significant step in StarHub’s Cloud Infinity Strategy, positioning the company to provide not only high-speed internet access but also an enhanced user experience for advanced applications such as Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and the Metaverse.

Nokia’s Altiplano Access Controller, an AI-driven software solution, enables automation and proactive network management, ensuring optimal performance. This partnership allows StarHub to transition fully to a software-defined access network, making it the first operator globally to achieve this milestone.

The deployment aligns with Singapore’s Digital Connectivity Blueprint, reinforcing StarHub’s leadership in next-generation broadband. Nokia’s expertise in fiber networks and AI-powered automation further strengthens StarHub’s ability to deliver premium services and drive digital transformation.

This upgrade enhances broadband capacity for consumers, enabling seamless support for bandwidth-intensive applications such as artificial intelligence, immersive gaming, and advanced security solutions. The deployment also positions StarHub to introduce premium services that generate additional revenue streams while ensuring a superior connectivity experience for customers.

StarHub is leveraging Nokia’s Altiplano Access Controller, a software solution designed to automate and enhance network utilization in order to optimize network performance and efficiency.

By integrating AI-driven operations, the Altiplano Access Controller enables StarHub to detect and address network anomalies proactively, anticipate potential service disruptions before they occur, and optimize network resource allocation.

The solution’s advanced analytics and AI-powered applications, such as the ONT Health Monitor, drive increased operational efficiency and enable higher levels of automation across StarHub’s network and service operations.

As the first operator in Singapore to launch XGS-PON services in February 2023, StarHub is also making history by becoming the first in the world to transition fully to a nationwide software-defined access network using Nokia’s Altiplano solution.

This transformation enhances network utilization through AI and automation, making StarHub a leader in next-generation broadband deployment. The rapid rollout and migration of the XGS-PON network align with the Singaporean government’s Digital Connectivity Blueprint, which aims to accelerate the adoption of 10Gbps PON services and bolster the nation’s digital infrastructure.

Ming Kin Ngiam, Head of SEA South for Network Infrastructure Sales at Nokia, noted that StarHub’s deployment of XGS-PON and software-defined access network solutions sets a new benchmark for network modernization.
