Telecom Lead Japan: McAfee will offer its mobile
security software pre-installed on Sharp’s Android-based tablet devices.
Sharp is targeting the tablets for the education sector and
will start shipping this month. Sharp users will have access to McAfee mobile
security free of charge for 30 days, and can then upgrade to a one-year
subscription for 2,980 yen (including tax).
McAfee said its mobile security software protects mobile
devices from various security threats. It guards against viruses, malicious
applications and blocks risky sites based on McAfee SiteAdvisor technology. It
also enables the user to back up and restore their data, and to remotely lock
and wipe the device in the event of loss or theft.
Sharp education tablet features a non-glare liquid crystal
screen that provides a clear display of characters and figures, an easy-to-hold
pen that provides handwriting input, as well as a learning support tool. It
includes an interactive classroom, which when employed with Sharp’s touch
screen BIG PAD, encourages cooperative learning.
McAfee has worked successfully with Sharp in the past to
provide McAfee Mobile Security to users of the Sharp GALAPAGOS tablet. By
providing our mobile security protection pre-installed on a learning device
designed for the education market, we will be able to provide a safer mobile
computing environment to a wider range of users,” said Jean-Claude Broido,
president of McAfee Japan.
McAfee said its mobile security software applications for
Android have been downloaded more than three million times last year in Japan
alone.
