LACS slashes tablet prices in India by 36 percent

Telecom Lead India: In order to stay ahead of the
competition, Lakshmi Access Communications Systems (LACS) has reduced
prices of its tablet PCs by 36 per cent, eyeing over 25 per cent
growth in sales.

“We have reduced the prices of our entire range of products by 36 per
cent. With the price cut, we expect to increase sales by over 25 per
cent,” said Vikas Anand, national sales head of LACS.
The company sells tablet PCs under ‘Magnum’ brand and has sold about
6,000 tablets in India till now.
The company has also launched two new variants of its ‘Magnum’ range of tablets
–Tamarind B7 (with seven inch screen) and T10 (with ten inch
screen). The B7 is priced at Rs 11,499 and the T10 at 20,499.
Both the devices run on Android 2.3 operating system and are
powered by 1.2 Ghz processor. The company has around 120 experience stores
across the country. Furthermore, the company has set a target of opening 10,000
such stores in the next 24 months.
The company would soon also be launching its range of accessories such as
wireless keyboard and wireless mouse.
Yesterday, Datawind launched Ubislate tablets in India
priced at Rs 2,999 and Rs 3,999, respectively for resistive and capacitive
screen versions. Both the tablets run on Android 2.3 platform.
The Ubislate7c (capacitive touch) tablets priced at Rs 4000 will
carry an internal flash memory of 4GB. The resistive versions will carry
internal memory of 2GB and will be priced at Rs 2,999. The tablets will carry
one standard USB port.

Datawind has tied up with Hyderbad-based VMC Systems for
manufacturing the tablets in India.
