Devices major Apple has hired Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts as senior vice president and member of our executive team. The strategy is to strengthen Apple retail and online stores.
Reporting to Apple CEO Tim Cook, Ahrendts will be responsible for strategic direction, expansion and operation of both Apple retail and online stores.
Ahrendts will join Apple in the spring from Burberry, a leading British fashion house, where she serves as CEO and has led the company through a period of outstanding global growth.
Prior to Burberry, she was executive vice president at Liz Claiborne, and earlier in her career she served as president of Donna Karan International.
Meanwhile, Reuters reported that Christopher Bailey, the designer credited with restoring the cachet to fashion brand Burberry, will become chief executive next year when long-standing boss Angela Ahrendts will move to Apple.
The British fashion house said on Tuesday Ahrendts would step down by mid-2014 after which Bailey would combine his role as chief creative officer with being chief executive.
