Apple to Produce All iPhone 17 Models in India Across Five Plants
Apple will manufacture all iPhone 17 models in India, with production spread across five plants including Tata Group’s Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu and Foxconn’s new plant near Bengaluru airport, along with existing units in Chennai and Devanahalli. Tata is expected to produce nearly half of India’s iPhones within two years. Between April and July 2025, Apple exported $7.5 billion worth of iPhones from India, compared to $17 billion in the previous fiscal year. In the year ending March 2025, Apple assembled $22 billion worth of iPhones in India, reflecting a 60 percent increase from the previous year. Annual production is projected to reach 60 million units in 2025, compared to 35–40 million in 2024–25, IANS reports.
Mobile Phone Exports Rise 127 Times in a Decade
India’s mobile phone exports increased 127 times in the past ten years, from ₹0.01 lakh crore in 2014–15 to ₹2 lakh crore in 2024–25. Production rose from ₹0.18 lakh crore to ₹5.5 lakh crore, a 28-fold increase. Manufacturing units expanded from 2 to over 300, reducing import dependence from 75 percent of domestic demand to 0.02 percent. Electronics production grew from ₹1.9 lakh crore to ₹11.3 lakh crore, while exports reached ₹3.3 lakh crore. Government measures driving this growth include Production Linked Incentive schemes, Electronics Manufacturing Clusters, SPECS, and the Public Procurement Order 2017. These policies supported 2.5 million direct and indirect jobs. Digital India and Skill India programmes contributed to workforce development, IANS reports.
BSNL Partners with Global Tech Giants to Drive Telecom Innovation in India
BSNL has partnered with Ericsson, Qualcomm, Cisco, and Nokia to advance telecom innovation and digital skills in India. The initiative will be led at BSNL’s BRBRAITT institute in Jabalpur through the Telecom Innovation, Research and Training Centre (TIRTC). Ericsson will set up a 5G Centre of Excellence to provide practical and online training. Qualcomm will deliver courses on 5G and AI along with internships for learners. Cisco will expand its Networking Academy to strengthen training in networking and cybersecurity. Nokia will establish a 5G and AI-ML laboratory and introduce joint certification programs. Training will include short-term modules and extended courses designed for students, professionals, and public sector employees, IANS reports.
