The move follows AMCON’s successful exit from the power sector through the sale of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company and reflects its broader strategy to recover value from distressed assets. According to Managing Director Gbenga Alade, NTEL has undergone significant operational and structural transformation, making it more attractive for long-term investment. AMCON also highlighted stronger debt recovery efforts during the first half of 2026, reinforcing its commitment to improving financial performance while enabling sustainable growth for NTEL under new ownership and supporting Nigeria’s evolving telecommunications sector.

Telefonica Advances Telxius Sale to Sharpen Strategic Focus and Unlock Value

Telefonica is advancing plans to sell its majority stake in submarine cable operator Telxius as part of its 2026 – 2030 strategic transformation aimed at simplifying operations and strengthening its focus on core European and Brazilian markets. The company, together with minority shareholder Pontegadea, has launched the sale process, with reports valuing Telxius at approximately €1.2 billion. Telxius operates more than 100,000 kilometers of submarine cable infrastructure connecting Europe, the Americas, and other global markets, making it a valuable digital infrastructure asset.
