Alcatel-Lucent lands desaNet deal to offer voice and data services to business customers

Telecom Lead Germany: desaNet Telekommunikation Sachsen Ost has signed up with Alcatel-Lucent to offer voice and data services to business customers.

desaNet Telekommunikation Sachsen is a subsidiary of the energy provider ENSO Energie Sachsen Ost.

The deal will enable desaNet to ensure safety, efficiency and cost effectiveness of their operations.

Using Alcatel-Lucent’s Internet Protocol/Multiprotocol Label Switching (IP/MPLS) technology, desaNet will deliver data in real time.

desaNet will also offer businesses new services such as prioritization of signals in case of incidents so they can be fixed before they become an issue. Moreover, the new network will enable desaNet to support multiple essential services on one communications system to reduce network complexity and costs.

The system will provide support for features such as teleprotection, which ensures faults are isolated from the main supply network to maintain the safety and reliability of a system – in milliseconds – before it can affect customers’ machinery and systems. It will also provide support for supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, as well as other voice and data services.

“Alcatel-Lucent will provide us with a new uniform network for operational and for commercial telecommunications services. This is a modern and seminal approach that meets all our business customers’ current and future communications needs – as well as those of energy providers such as ENSO, with the ability to support future ‘smart grid’ applications,” said Hans-Dietmar Beyer, managing director of desaNet.

“Alcatel-Lucent’s IP/MPLS network paves the way for the future support of Smart Grid applications, delivering even further enhancements for energy companies and their customers. We are delighted to work with desaNet to help them transform the communications abilities of companies in the state of Saxony,” said Patrick Langelaan, vice president Sales, German Accounts of Alcatel-Lucent.

Recently, TelecomLead.com reported that China Telecom has tied up with Alcatel-Lucent to deploy IP technology. The Alcatel-Lucent technology will allow China Telecom to meet demand for video and data services for householders and consumers. In May 2012, China Telecom announced the expansion of its broadband access network.
