Calix supports Silver Star Communications for gigabit network

Calix will support Silver Star Communications for its gigabit network initiative in Jackson, Wyoming, the U.S.

As part of the deal, Silver Star Communications has selected the Calix844G GigaCenter, E7-2 and E7-20 Ethernet Services Access Platforms (ESAPs) and 700GE optical network terminals (ONTs) for its Gigabiz initiative.

Silver Star’s fiber network will enable it to deliver broadband speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) to both businesses and residents.

Silver Star will be Calix’s 50th gigabit network in the world.

Ron McCue, president and COO of Silver Star Communications, said: “We are located in a rural and mountainous area, so gigabit speeds are crucial to our ability to compete with urban areas as a destination for businesses.”

Silver Star is building 120 miles of fiber since 2011 throughout western Wyoming and eastern Idaho. By interconnecting with the statewide fiber loops in both states, Silver Star has improved the level of broadband service for residents and business throughout the region.

Its Gigabiz subscribers will be some of the first in the U.S. to enjoy a new connected gigabit lifestyle enabled by the GigaCenters, which deliver one Gbps symmetrical wireline services and fast wireless speeds to all Wi-Fi enabled devices in the home via the latest 802.11ac wave 2 Wi-Fi technology with 4×4 Multi-User Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO).
