C Spire testing 5G fixed and mobile technologies

C Spire testing 5G networks
The US-based telecom operator company C Spire today commented that it intends to support faster speeds, lower latency and wants to increase the Internet-connected devices exponentially by putting efforts to meet consumer and market demands.

C Spire demonstrated 5G fixed wireless solution in Mississippi using Nokia equipment, in an industry first. The demonstration was done with a direct connection to its fiber-based commercial television service.

The test was conducted with C Spire Fiber consumer television content and displayed ultra-high definition resolution video showcasing speeds of about 2.2 Gigabits per second (Gbps) and ultra-low latency below 1.4 milliseconds over the 5G wireless link.

With only a few U.S. telecoms having a fiber optic infrastructure and 28 GHz spectrum, C Spire being among them, the company has a good scope to make headway in the emerging technology.

The company offers wireless service to about 1 million customers across areas like Mississippi, Alabama etc. It has joined the likes of AT&T, Verizon, Google etc for FTTH service deployment with 1 Gbps fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) service already present in some circles.

“This is the kind of real-world application that will help change forever how we live, work and play,” said Stephen Bye, CTO of C Spire.
