Norway has set its goal of becoming the most digitalized country in the world by 2030. Telia activated its first 5G base stations in Lillestrom — four years ago.

Telia Norway’s revenue dropped 5.3 percent to SEK 3,750 million during January-September 2024 from SEK 3,962 million during January-September 2023.

The number of mobile connections in Telia Norway fell 2.2 percent to 2.386 million during January-September 2024 from 2.440 million during January-September 2023. ARPU of mobile business has dropped 0.4 percent to NOK 298 January-September 2024 from NOK 299 January-September 2023.

Broadband connections have dropped 4.4 percent to 481K during January-September 2024 from 503K during January-September 2023.

Telia Norway’s Capex excluding fees for licenses, spectrum and right-of-use assets, decreased 11.3 percent to SEK 553 million in Q3 2024 from SEK 623 million.

Telia’s total capital spending (Capex) was SEK 9,524 million during January-September 2024.

Currently, 1.6 million 5G-enabled devices are connected to Telia’s network, with many Norwegians relying on 5G wireless broadband for internet access. The potential of 5G is evident in cities like Tromso, where the combined power of 5G and 4G has increased average download speeds by 375 percent and driven a 900 percent surge in mobile data usage since 2019.

Telia’s 5G network is unlocking new possibilities for both consumers and enterprises. Key initiatives include:

Defense: A private 5G network tailored for Norway’s armed forces ensures secure and flexible communication by isolating military traffic from the public network.

Logistics: Posten Bring, a major logistics company, has optimized operations at its Drøbak warehouse with private 5G connectivity, which provides uninterrupted signals even around large shelves.

Emergency Services: This summer, Telia tested a drone-deployed, satellite-connected 5G/4G base station to restore mobile coverage rapidly in disaster-hit areas.

“A national 5G network is only the start of the future,” said Stein-Erik Vellan, Head of Telia Norway. “We have many exciting projects underway and look forward to sharing more details soon.”

With Ericsson as its technology partner, Telia continues to enhance its 4G network alongside the 5G rollout, doubling capacity and further boosting speed and coverage across Norway.
