India Mobile Congress 2026 (IMC 2026) has started from October 7 to 10 in New Delhi under the theme “Scale Without Boundaries.”

Organized by the Department of Telecommunications and the Cellular Operators Association of India, the 10th edition focuses on 5G, 6G, AI networks, semiconductors, cybersecurity and emerging technologies including smart mobility, industrial robotics and transport technology.

Ericsson Produces More Than 15,000 Antennas in India

Ericsson has produced more than 15,000 antennas and 25 million components in India since July 2025, strengthening the country’s role in its global telecom manufacturing and engineering network. The Swedish telecom equipment maker is also exporting India-manufactured antennas to Europe and other international markets. Ericsson said its local ecosystem now spans component sourcing, engineering, production and exports, supporting customers in India and overseas. The antennas are designed to improve network coverage and capacity, spectrum efficiency, uplink performance and energy efficiency as operators move toward 5G Standalone, AI-driven networks and future architectures. The company plans to further expand local manufacturing and engineering capabilities, positioning India as an increasingly important hub for next-generation telecom equipment.

Nokia Says Adequate Spectrum Will Be Critical for India’s 6G Rollout

Nokia has identified timely access to sufficient and appropriate spectrum as a key policy requirement for India’s successful transition to 6G. Ulrich Dropmann, head of Standardization and Industry Environment, Strategy and Technology at Nokia Standards, said spectrum must be assigned at the right time and in adequate quantities to allow future 6G technologies to operate efficiently. His comments came during India Mobile Congress 2026 as the global telecom industry enters a critical phase of 6G standard development. Decisions being made now are expected to influence network technology and deployment over the coming decade. The comments underline the importance of spectrum planning alongside standardization, infrastructure investment and technology development for India’s future mobile networks.

Microscan Plans ₹350 Crore Submarine Cable Landing Station Near Mumbai

Indian fiber infrastructure provider Microscan plans to invest approximately ₹350 crore in a new submarine cable landing station at Alibaug, around 95 km from Mumbai. The proposed facility will serve international cable operators, telecommunications carriers, hyperscalers and data-center operators requiring additional international connectivity routes. Microscan is holding discussions with potential cable partners, including Henox IT and Data Centers, Singapore-based Datawave and another international submarine infrastructure operator. The Alibaug facility will connect directly to Microscan’s existing underground fiber network, which links more than 45 data centers, exchanges and financial-market locations around Mumbai. The project is intended to provide an alternative landing location as international cable infrastructure remains concentrated along Mumbai’s existing coastal corridor.

Starlink Completes 20 Satellite Gateway Sites in India Ahead of Commercial Launch

Starlink has completed substantial ground infrastructure preparations for its planned Indian satellite broadband service, establishing approximately 20 gateway locations equipped with hundreds of antennas. The facilities will support communication between Starlink’s low-Earth-orbit constellation and terrestrial telecommunications networks. The company has also developed India-specific infrastructure and operating arrangements intended to satisfy domestic data-handling and regulatory requirements. Starlink already holds a Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite licence and authorization from India’s space regulator, but additional government clearances remain necessary before commercial services can begin. The infrastructure investment positions Starlink to offer satellite broadband in rural and remote locations where conventional fiber or mobile networks are difficult to deploy.
