Huawei leads optical WDM equipment market, ahead of Ciena, ZTE

Telecom network vendor Huawei is leading the global optical WDM equipment market in 2014 – ahead of Ciena and ZTE, said Dell’Oro Group.

Alcatel-Lucent is the fourth largest optical WDM equipment vendor.

Huawei’s revenue in optical WDM equipment rose 7 percent, Ciena 13 percent, ZTE 34 percent and Alcatel-Lucent 14 percent last year. The telecom analysis report did not share the specific market share details.

The total Wavelength Division Multiplexer or WDM market, comprising long haul and metro applications, grew 7 percent in 2014 to almost $9.5 billion.

“The majority of market growth for the year came from heightened demand in China where service providers are shifting from rolling out 40 Gbps wavelengths to 100 Gbps wavelengths.  The global shipments of 100 Gbps wavelengths doubled in 2014, contributing nearly half the total market revenue for the year,” said Jimmy Yu, vice president of Optical Transport research at Dell’Oro Group.
