The size of broadband access technology market, including cable, DSL, and PON, exceeded $12 billion in 2015, driven by PON.
Cable modem market is predicted to make a comeback, said Dell’Oro Group.
PON revenue grew 21 percent to more than $6 billion in 2015.
Huawei, ZTE, and Alcatel-Lucent benefitted from deployments in China, especially in customer premises equipment.
Alcatel-Lucent, Calix, and ADTRAN gained following the deployment of gigabit services by large and small service providers in North America.
Demand for both DSL and Cable technologies fell in 2015. Broadband technologies such as G.fast, 35b, and DOCSIS 3.1, are likely to gain in 2016.
“This will be especially important as service providers, whose current infrastructure is based around DOCSIS or DSL technologies, will look to effectively compete with competitors who utilize fiber,” said Alam Tamboli, senior analyst at Dell’Oro Group.
Broadband technologies cable, DSL and PON will grow in 2016.
