The global broadband CPE market increased 6 percent to $2.6 billion in Q3 2014 from Q2 2014, said Infonetics Research, a part of IHS.
Top broadband CPE vendors shipped a cumulative 89.1 million DOCSIS 3.0 CPE units over the last 12 quarters, from Q4 2011 to Q3 2014.
DOCSIS 3.0 gateway revenue grew 14 percent sequentially in Q3 2014.
Cable operators worldwide are using the DOCSIS 3.0 technology to gain broadband subscriber share.
Connected home and multi-screen services continue to proliferate as operators increase the number of services they offer to subscribers and improve margins.
As a result, an increasing number of intelligent, video-capable gateways are being shipped globally to support these advanced services.
The fixed LTE CPE segment is beginning to rebound, and the North American market is expected to be a primary growth engine over the next 2 years as wireless major AT&T begins to roll out fixed LTE services to rural households.
“Even if MSOs aren’t currently offering DOCSIS 3.0 services, prices on the D3 devices have come down to the point where it makes sense to move forward with them,” said Jeff Heynen, principal analyst for broadband access at Infonetics Research.
