Broadband access market, including PON, DSL and Cable, is expected to achieve revenues of almost $12 billion by 2019, said Dell’Oro Group.
There will be continued growth from both the Cable and PON markets through 2019, while the DSL market will decline over this period. Growth in the Cable market will be driven by DOCSIS 3.1 upgrades while strong demand for PON will continue to come from service providers in China.
In addition to China, service providers in other countries to significantly increase their consumption of PON technology going forward.
Alam Tamboli, senior analyst at Dell’Oro Group, said: “PON technologies are also expected to push demand, as TWDM-PON will likely be used for applications beyond residential broadband, including mobile backhaul and business services.”
