WIND Mobile sells 15 MHz spectrum to MTS for $45 mn

WIND Mobile, a telecom operator in Canada, has sold 15 MHz of paired AWS-1 spectrum in Manitoba to MTS for $45 million.

This acquisition of the spectrum from WIND Mobile – coupled with the spectrum acquired in the Federal government auction earlier this year – will allow MTS to significantly increase the speed and customer experience on the MTS wireless network.

“We are appreciative of the concrete steps that the government has been taking to create more choice, lower prices and better wireless service for Canadians and their families,” said MTS Allstream CEO Jay Forbes.

WIND Mobile will focus its resources on providing strong competition in Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta. Being Canada’s 4th largest carrier, WIND Mobile has more than 800,000 customers in Canada.

WIND Mobile CEO Alek Krstajic said: “Sale proceeds, including our recent spectrum acquisitions from Rogers as well as the AWS-3 spectrum auction, will be used towards network expansion and quality improvements including the LTE rollout.”
