Vodafone launches M-Pesa PAY digital payment solution

Vodafone India with M-Pesa PAYVodafone India has launched Vodafone M-Pesa PAY, a digital payment solution for merchants and retail shop owners to receive payment from customers without exchanging cash.

Retail shop owners and merchants across the country can download Vodafone M-Pesa app and register for Vodafone M-Pesa PAY as a merchant. Once registered, they can notify individual customer to make the payment due. Customers need to click on the notification and make payment digitally using their M-Pesa wallet, bank account and debit or credit card.

Vodafone India said M-Pesa, which was launched in 2013, has over 8.4 million customers and nearly 1,30,000 outlets across the country.

“With the launch of Vodafone M-Pesa PAY, we are accelerating this journey by creating a platform for merchants and retailers to easily embrace digital payments and also encourage their millions of customers to pay via digital currency,” said Sunil Sood, MD and CEO at Vodafone India.

Vodafone M-Pesa is available as an app and also in USSD mode via short code *400# for mobile phone users. It empowers users to digitise cash, make payments for utilities, undertake transactions such as bill payment, recharges, remit to family and friends and / or withdraw cash from nearly 1,30,000 touch points.

Users of Vodafone M-Pesa digital wallet enjoy up to 5 percent cash back (up to a maximum limit) for new customers for 3 months, cash back offer of up to Rs 500 from shopclues .com on select merchandise, 0.75 percent cash back on payments to purchase petrol and full talk time on Vodafone prepaid packs of select denominations.

Transferring money to a mobile number and loading the wallet though online mode – credit/debit card and internet banking is free.
