Vodafone Idea leads in rural areas of India, Jio takes second position

Vodafone Idea is the leading mobile operator across rural areas of India, according to the latest statistics from Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
Leading mobile operator in India ruralVodafone Idea has 193.67 million subscribers in rural India, representing 37.64 percent share of rural subscribers. Reliance Jio has 355.22 million mobile phone customers in rural India, representing 27.76 percent share.

Bharti Airtel has 138.34 million mobile phone users in rural areas, accounting for 26.88 percent share. BSNL has 39.65 million customers in rural India, representing 7.7 percent share.

Eight service areas have more than 50 percent share of rural subscribers in their total number of subscribers. Himachal Pradesh service area has maximum share of rural subscribers with 66.95 percent in its total telephone subscribers.

Uttar Pradesh East has 57.20 million mobile phone subscribers in rural areas.

Bihar has 54.14 million mobile phone subscribers in rural areas.

Maharashtra has 43.50 million mobile phone subscribers in rural areas.

The number of rural mobile phone subscribers increased 1.25 percent from 508.19 million in June quarter of 2019 to 514.56 million in September 2019. The number of urban mobile phone subscribers increased 0.29 percent from 657.27 million to 659.18 million during the quarter.

Total number of mobile data subscribers increased from 643.09 million in June quarter of 2019 to 664.80 million in September 2019.

Top five telecom service areas in terms of internet subscriptions (wired+ wireless) are Maharashtra with 57.59 million subscribers, Andhra Pradesh including Telengana with 53.80 million, Uttar Pradesh East with 49.51 million, Tamil Nadu including Chennai with 48.46 million and Madhya Pradesh including Chhatishgarh with 44.44 million subscribers.

The number of broadband subscribers increased from 594.58 million in June quarter of 2019 to 625.42 million in September. India has wired broadband subscriber base of 19.01 million and wireless broadband subscriber base of 606.41 million.

Top five broadband (wired+wireless) service providers in terms of subscribers are Jio with 355.93 million, Bharti Airtel with 127.83 million, Vodafone Idea with 112.19 million, BSNL with 21.52 million and Atria Convergence with 1.48 million.

Top five service areas in respect of broadband subscriptions are Maharashtra with 52.47 million, Andhra Pradesh including Telengana with 49.22 million, Tamil Nadu including Chennai with 44.38 million, Uttar Pradesh East with 43.54 million and Karnataka with 40.37 million.

BSNL holds 45.73 percent market share with 8.69 million subscribers in wired broadband business. Bharti with has 2.41 million subscribers in wired broadband business.

Reliance Jio has 355.93 million subscribers in wireless broadband business with 58.63 percent market share. Bharti Airtel has 125.42 million subscribers with 20.66 percent share in wireless broadband business.
