Vodacom appoints Mohamed Abdallah as CEO of International Markets and Vodafone Egypt

Vodacom Group has announced the appointment of Mohamed Abdallah as Chief Executive Officer of Vodacom International Markets and Vodafone Egypt, a move strategically aligned with the Group’s Vision 2030 and its ambition to streamline operations, enhance leadership synergy, and unlock value across its pan-African footprint.

This leadership realignment marks a critical milestone in Vodacom’s strategy to simplify its operating model, strengthen execution, and accelerate growth in international markets. Mohamed, who has been serving as CEO of Vodafone Egypt, now assumes responsibility for a unified regional portfolio covering Egypt, the DRC, Lesotho, Mozambique, and Tanzania.

This structural shift aims to foster cross-market collaboration, improve accountability, and drive performance at scale. Vodacom did not reveal the salary / remuneration of Mohamed Abdallah.

From an HR and organizational development perspective, the appointment is a testament to Vodacom’s commitment to nurturing internal talent and promoting leadership continuity.

Mohamed brings over 25 years of experience within Vodafone, having held pivotal roles such as Enterprise Business Director and Consumer Business Director before taking the helm at Vodafone Egypt. His deep institutional knowledge and people-centric leadership approach will be central to engaging teams across diverse markets and sustaining a high-performance culture.

The appointment also reflects a strategic emphasis on leadership stability and transformation, as Mohamed succeeds Diego Gutierrez, who stepped down in April after a successful seven-year tenure. Gutierrez played a vital role in strengthening Vodacom’s international operations through a period of significant evolution.

In his expanded capacity, Mohamed will report directly to Shameel Joosub, Vodacom Group CEO, while the CEOs of Vodacom’s operations in the DRC, Lesotho, Mozambique, and Tanzania will report to him. This new hierarchical alignment is designed to enable sharper strategic oversight, foster regional leadership development, and reinforce the Group’s purpose-led operating ethos.
