Viaplay to take full ownership of Allente in SEK 1.1 bn deal with Telenor

The agreement announced today values Allente at SEK 3.1 billion on an enterprise level, with the transaction expected to close within six to nine months pending regulatory approvals in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.

Formed in May 2020 through the merger of Canal Digital and Viasat, Allente has become a major Nordic distributor of premium TV content, serving both residential and business customers. Over the course of the joint venture, the company generated SEK 4.4 billion in dividends for its owners and delivered strong operational synergies.

The deal aligns with both companies’ strategic priorities. Telenor views the divestment as a move to sharpen its portfolio focus, with EVP Dan Ouchterlony noting that Allente now fits more closely with Viaplay’s long-term strategy than Telenor’s. For Viaplay, the acquisition reinforces its ambition to control more of the entertainment value chain and strengthen its direct relationship with customers.

Viaplay CEO Jorgen Madsen Lindemann said the company will build on the platform created with Telenor to enhance Allente’s offerings and deliver improved customer experiences.

The acquisition represents a strategic investment for Viaplay as it consolidates its position in the Nordic content distribution market, while Telenor monetizes a mature asset to redirect capital toward its core telecom operations.
