TRAI July 2025 Report: India’s Telecom and Broadband Subscriber Growth Insights

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released its subscriber data for July 2025, highlighting trends in wireless, 5G FWA, M2M connections, and broadband services across the country.

The latest statistics provide a clear view of the growth dynamics in India’s telecom and internet markets, showing steady increases in urban mobile and broadband adoption while rural wireless and fixed-line segments face slight declines.

Wireless Subscribers in India

India’s total wireless (mobile) subscriber base rose modestly from 1,163.03 million in June 2025 to 1,163.51 million in July 2025, reflecting a monthly growth rate of 0.04 percent.

Urban wireless subscriptions increased from 633.14 million to 636.02 million, registering a 0.45 percent growth.

Rural wireless subscriptions declined slightly from 529.88 million to 527.49 million, representing a 0.45 percent drop.

Among telecom operators, Reliance Jio led with 4.83 lakh new wireless subscribers added in July, closely followed by Bharti Airtel, which added 4.64 lakh. Vodafone Idea and BSNL experienced losses, shedding 3.59 lakh and 1.01 lakh subscribers, respectively.

Growth of 5G FWA Subscribers

The adoption of 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) continues to rise in India, with total subscribers growing from 7.85 million in June 2025 to 8.40 million in July 2025.

Urban areas accounted for 5.02 million subscribers (59.71 percent).

Rural areas contributed 3.38 million subscribers (40.29 percent).

This trend underscores the growing demand for high-speed wireless broadband solutions across both urban and semi-urban markets.

Expansion of M2M Cellular Connections

Machine-to-Machine (M2M) connections saw notable growth, increasing from 79.44 million in June 2025 to 84.62 million in July 2025.

Market leadership in M2M connections is held by:

Bharti Airtel – 48.71 million connections (57.56 percent market share)

Vodafone Idea – 20.35 percent market share

Reliance Jio – 17.91 percent market share

BSNL – 4.18 percent market share

The surge in M2M connections highlights India’s expanding Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem and growing industrial adoption of connected solutions.

Broadband Subscriber Growth

India’s total broadband subscriber base rose from 979.71 million in June 2025 to 984.69 million in July 2025, marking a 0.51 percent monthly growth.

Reliance Jio – 498.47 million

Bharti Airtel – 307.07 million

Vodafone Idea – 127.58 million

BSNL – 34.27 million

Atria Convergence Technologies – 2.34 million

Fixed (Wired) Broadband Leaders

For fixed-line broadband, the top five providers as of July 31, 2025, were:

Reliance Jio – 14.52 million

Bharti Airtel – 9.55 million

BSNL – 4.36 million

Atria Convergence Technologies – 2.34 million

Kerala Vision Broadband – 1.39 million
