TeliaSonera faces objections to acquire Tele2

Telecom service provider TeliaSonera today said it is facing objections from local authorities for acquiring Tele2’s Norwegian wireless operations.

In a statement, TeliaSonera said Konkurransetilsynet, the Norwegian Competition Authority, has raised objections to the acquisition of Tele2’s Norwegian operations. TeliaSonera did not share the nature of objections.

TeliaSonera will share response to the Authority’s objections by December 22, the deadline set by Konkurransetilsynet.

“We and Konkurransetilsynet make different assessments of what is good for competition and how that affects the customers. Now we will analyze their objections carefully and then continue the dialogue,” said Robert Andersson, head of region Europe at TeliaSonera.

In July, TeliaSonera announced its intention to buy Tele2 Norway for SEK 5.1 billion. At the same time TeliaSonera committed itself to 98 percent population coverage for 4G by 2016, two years earlier than required.
