Telecom service provider Robi Axiata on Thursday said its new CEO Supun Weerasinghe has joined the company.
Weerasinghe replaces Michael Kuehner, who has retired from full-time corporate life. Kuehner will continue to be a member of the Board of Directors of Robi Axiata, the third largest mobile phone operator in Bangladesh with more than 25 million subscribers.
Under the new CEO, Robi Axiata will continue to provide affordable, high quality wireless data and internet connectivity. Bangladesh is gearing up to see the launch of 3G services by Grameenphone, Robi Axiata, Bharti Airtel, etc.
Weerasinghe served as group chief strategy officer at Axiata Group in Kuala Lumpur. He also served as the head of network transformation strategic business unit under which he provided leadership to group technology, carrier collaboration and the Axiata Intelligence Unit (previously Axiata Management Services).
Prior to the Axiata Group, Weerasinghe was the group chief operating officer of Dialog Axiata, Sri Lanka’s mobile market leader.
