Reliance Jio hires BlackBerry veteran Sunil Dutt as president

Indian telecom service provider Reliance Jio Infocomm has appointed Sunil Dutt, BlackBerry’s former head for India, as president.

Before serving as BlackBerry (earlier known was Research In Motion) India managing director, Dutt was country head for Samsung Electronics India, PTI reported.

During his stint at BlackBerry, the smartphone vendor’s market share dipped significantly thanks to rivals such as Samsung, Micromax, Karbonn, etc. and lack of availability of new smartphones.

Dutt has also worked with computer maker HP, Nokia, Whirlpool and coffee chain Barista.

Reliance Jio is planning to increase its total workforce to 10,000 this year.

Reliance Jio Infocomm, which is in the process of launching its 4G LTE, has already roped in several key telecom executives including Sandip Das, ex-CEO Maxis.
