Nepal earthquake: Ncell announces special offers

To assist the victims after the Nepal earthquake, Ncell, a subsidiary of TeliaSonera, today announced special offers.

The telecom service provider has credited SIM cards with an amount sufficient to make necessary calls. Ncell also provides customers with 50 free SMS. Calls and SMS between most of TeliaSonera’ European operations and Nepal are free of charge.

Ncell is recommending its mobile customers to send SMS and avoid voice calling to ensure smooth services during the emergency.

The TeliaSonera company said its 515 employees are safe. On early Monday morning, TeliaSonera sent an aircraft to Nepal with tents, water cleaning facilities and medical supplies to improve working conditions for Ncell’s employees to secure the operations.

Ncell’s mobile network in Nepal is overloaded. Several hundred sites have power supply issues. This leads to congested networks and Ncell. Ncell’s crisis management team has secured support from suppliers and maintenance teams are trying to restart as many sites as possible.
