Indian spectrum auction mobilizes Rs 103,046 crore till Monday

India government has fetched Rs 103, 046 crore from the ongoing spectrum auction as per the data revealed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

The NDA government is trying to sell spectrum in 2100 MHz, 1800 MHz, 900 MHz and 800 MHz bands to telecom operators such as Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular, Reliance Jio Infocomm, Reliance Communications, Aircel, Uninor and Tata Teleservices.

The government has already achieved its initial target of mopping up Rs 100,000 crore by selling its spectrum.

“The bidding is taking place in all bands. Brisk bidding was seen on 11th day of bidding, with activity requirement set at 100 percent. There is robust bidding going on in 1800 MHz, 900 MHz and 800 MHz bands. At the end of 67th round, more than 87 percent of the spectrum has been provisionally allocated to bidders,” said the government.

“The provisional amount committed by bidders at the end of 67th round is Rs 103,046 crore. Majority of service areas are going at a premium over reserve price,” said DoT in a statement issued on Monday.

There is no demand for 3G spectrum indicating that the 3G segment will not have bright future in India. There are indications that some of the operators will be investing in 4G directly skipping significant portion of their Capex earmarked for 3G.
