India telecom operator Idea Cellular today announced unlimited calling and 1GB data for Rs 179 for its pre-paid customers across India.
Recently, Reliance Communications, one of the rivals of Idea Cellular, said it would stop voice calling service to its subscribers and focus on 4G data business.
Idea Cellular and Vodafone India are trying to tap mobile customers from Reliance Communications, Aircel and Tata Docomo. Idea Cellular will be combining its business with Vodafone next year through the largest telecom deals in India.
India has about 400 million data users and growing at a fast pace, while there are around 600 million users who exclusively use their mobile phones for making calls. The new recharge from Idea is targeted at all voice users. Idea customers can now make unlimited local and STD calls and also get 1GB data for Rs 179.
Idea Cellular is offering the new pre-paid pack for users of any type of handset. Idea Cellular said its prepaid customers who recharge online on www.ideacellular.com or using the MyIdea App will get additional 1GB data free.
“In today’s world of absolute connectivity, a phone call from an old friend still brings a smile to our face, and this is the creative concept of the campaign. With our Rs 179 recharge we will enable customers to continue their conversations non-stop,” said Sashi Shankar, chief marketing officer of Idea Cellular.
